AFC Toronto’s Marko Milanovic has been honored as the coach of the year in the Northern Super League. Milanovic guided Toronto to the top spot in the league’s debut season, boasting a remarkable 16-6-3 record. Toronto accumulated 51 points, finishing a significant 12 points ahead of their closest rivals, Ottawa Rapid and Vancouver Rise, who both secured 39 points each.
The coach of the year award was determined through a vote among the six NSL coaches, with the rule that coaches could not vote for themselves. This voting process mirrored the player-endorsed awards at the end of the season, where players cast votes for their fellow players.
Toronto dominated the six-team league in goal-scoring with 42 goals and ranked second in goals conceded with 24, narrowly trailing behind Montreal in that category.
Toronto is set to kick off the playoffs against Montreal this Saturday in the first leg of the semifinals, while Vancouver will host Ottawa on Tuesday in the other matchup.
Before his tenure with Toronto, Milanovic amassed over ten years of coaching experience with North Toronto Soccer, including leading the team in League1 Ontario. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach at Toronto Metropolitan University.
