The latest season of the hit elder millennial romantic comedy series “Nobody Wants This” on Netflix was released last week, drawing attention not for its content, but for a controversial Instagram post by one of the show’s lead actors, Kristen Bell. In the post celebrating her anniversary with husband Dax Shepard, Bell made comments that many found insensitive and tone-deaf, particularly regarding domestic violence.

The post, which featured a heartfelt photo of the couple in an embrace, included a caption where Bell humorously referenced Shepard once saying to her, “I would never kill you,” and jokingly mentioned the temptation to do so despite never acting on it. While the post may have been intended as light-hearted banter typical of the couple’s dynamic, it sparked immediate backlash from viewers and domestic violence advocates, especially given the timing during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Critics pointed out that trivializing domestic violence through such comments could normalize abuse and silence survivors. Representatives from advocacy groups emphasized the seriousness of domestic violence issues and the dangers of making light of them. Despite the uproar, Bell has not publicly addressed the controversy, leading to speculations and concerns from various sources about her refusal to apologize or address the situation.

While some fans defended Bell, citing the couple’s history of dark humor and playful banter, advocates and experts have urged her to acknowledge the impact of her remarks and consider apologizing and supporting relevant causes. The ongoing silence from Bell has prompted discussions about the responsibility of public figures to address sensitive topics and the importance of raising awareness about serious social issues rather than getting caught up in celebrity controversies.
