Hyundai has issued a cautionary alert concerning the seatbelt system in certain 2026 Palisade models. According to Transport Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database, there is a potential for wiring damage in the seatbelt of the third-row, left-hand side seat when it is pulled, resulting in a misleading seatbelt indicator showing it as fastened when it is not.
The malfunctioning seatbelt status indicator could lead to confusion as not wearing a seatbelt escalates the risk of injuries during a collision. Approximately 4,203 vehicles in Canada could be impacted by this seatbelt issue. Affected drivers will be notified in writing by Hyundai and advised to visit a dealership for the necessary seatbelt wiring repair.
Alternatively, drivers can check if their vehicle is affected by entering their identification number on Hyundai’s online recall lookup website or by contacting 1-888-216-2626. Earlier this year, Hyundai recalled numerous vehicles in the U.S. and Canada and halted sales of specific Palisade models due to a separate issue where certain power seats in the second and third rows did not stop moving upon detecting contact with a passenger or object. This action was prompted by a tragic incident in Ohio where a two-year-old child lost their life.
