Canadian tennis sensation Félix Auger-Aliassime has made the decision to withdraw from the Moselle Open this week due to a knee injury, prioritizing his well-being while potentially jeopardizing his chances of competing in the prestigious ATP Finals. Hailing from Montreal, the 25-year-old disclosed the injury as the primary reason for his absence from the tournament held in Metz, France, one of the ATP 250 events taking place presently.
Auger-Aliassime’s exit comes after an intense journey to the finals of the Paris Masters, culminating in a defeat to the top-ranked player, Jannik Sinner, with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the final match on Sunday. Throughout the tournament, he displayed remarkable resilience by overcoming deficits in his initial three matches and engaging in five tiebreakers.
Following his commendable performance, Auger-Aliassime ascended to the 8th spot in the ATP rankings, surpassing Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the race for the last singles slot in the ATP Finals set to commence in Turin, Italy this Sunday. Meanwhile, Musetti is currently competing in the Hellenic Championship in Athens and must secure victory in the event to reclaim the ATP Finals berth from Auger-Aliassime.
Having achieved a record of 48 wins and 22 losses this year, along with clinching three titles, Auger-Aliassime marks his return to the top eight rankings for the first time since April 10, 2023.
