Stellantis announced a global recall of more than 1.3 million Jeep SUVs and trucks due to fire risks. Owners are advised to park their vehicles away from structures and other cars until the issue is resolved. The recall affects 2021-2025 model year Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator trucks, concerning an electrical connection problem in the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring. In rare instances, this issue could lead to overheating of combustible materials, potentially causing a vehicle fire.
The recall encompasses approximately 1.08 million vehicles in the U.S., 106,000 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico, and around 125,000 in other global markets. Stellantis mentioned that the recall process will include an inspection and potential repair or replacement of the wiring harness or electric hydraulic power steering pump. The company is striving to expedite the availability of the remedy and aims to have the recall completed by July at the latest.
Although Stellantis has received reports of one possible injury related to the problem, there have been no accidents or fatalities reported.
