Grab your favorite drink and head to the waterfront because a Canadian version of the popular reality show “Summer House” is in the works, with filming taking place in Ontario’s picturesque Muskoka region. The collaboration between Hayu, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, and Lark Productions marks the first international adaptation of the hit series.
The decision to film “Summer House Canada” in Muskoka was praised by NBCUniversal’s Hendrik McDermott, who highlighted the iconic Canadian backdrop as the perfect setting to continue the franchise’s success. Similar to the original U.S. show, the Canadian version will follow a group of friends as they gather at a shared cottage on weekends, navigating relationships and drama along the way.
Erin Haskett, president of Lark Productions, expressed excitement about bringing the beloved global franchise to Canada, emphasizing the authentic friendships and memorable moments that define “Summer House.” This Canadian adaptation joins other successful reality TV series adaptations, including “Canada Shore” and the upcoming return of “Big Brother Canada.”
The announcement of “Summer House Canada” comes on the heels of the U.S. version receiving its first Emmy nomination after a dramatic season that included hidden romances and fractured friendships among the cast. The Canadian series, set to consist of 10 episodes, will exclusively stream on Hayu, with casting details to be revealed in the coming months. Fans can anticipate the premiere of “Summer House Canada” in 2027.
