U.S. artist Chris Brown has admitted to an assault charge stemming from an incident at a London nightclub three years ago. Brown, 37, and his vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, 40, appeared in London’s Southwark Crown Court, acknowledging their guilt in a confrontation at Tape nightclub in February 2023. The duo had faced severe charges of causing harm but opted to plead guilty to the lesser charge of affray, conceding to engaging in or threatening violence against someone causing fear for their safety.
The prosecution decided not to pursue the more serious charges, and Brown and Akinlolu were granted bail until their sentencing scheduled for October 26. The potential sentence for affray is up to three years in prison, as emphasized by Judge Tony Baumgartner. The Crown Prosecution Service condemned the attack as vicious and unprovoked, emphasizing their commitment to pursuing justice in such cases.
Allegations suggested that Brown used a glass bottle to strike the victim’s head, with both Brown and Akinlolu reportedly continuing the attack as the victim attempted to escape. Brown, who was arrested in May 2025 upon returning to the UK for the first time since the incident, was initially denied bail, causing uncertainty around his ongoing tour. However, he was later released after agreeing to pay a substantial security fee, enabling his tour to proceed.
Following the court appearance, Brown was greeted by fans cheering “Breezy! Breezy!” as he signed autographs before departing in a waiting vehicle.
