Nearly four years back, Sokvin Vann found herself stuck in a rut in life. Encouraged by her brother, she channeled her passion for K-pop and BTS, forming BTS Army Toronto. Despite facing personal tragedy with her brother’s passing, Vann continued to expand the fan club, organizing events, fundraisers, and supporting local Korean businesses. Now, as BTS prepares for their long-awaited return to Toronto after more than a decade, Vann, along with her son Jordan and a team of about 10 individuals, is excited about the upcoming concerts.

As part of their Arirang World Tour, BTS will be performing two sold-out shows at Rogers Stadium over the weekend. The City of Toronto has renamed a section of Yonge Street as BTS Boulevard in honor of the concerts, featuring a red design inspired by the tour’s branding. The city has also declared Saturday and Sunday as BTS Weekend, illuminating the Toronto sign in purple, symbolizing the connection with BTS and its fans.

Known for their devoted fandom, BTS fans, also known as the “army,” deeply connect with the band’s music, which touches on themes like mental health, self-love, and personal growth. Vann, who is a real estate agent and runs BTS Army Toronto, has expanded her involvement in the K-pop industry through a new venture called Idol Konnect, offering consulting and event planning services for K-pop artists.

After a hiatus due to mandatory military service for its members, BTS is returning on a world tour, with Toronto being their only stop in Canada. Since their debut in 2013, BTS has risen to global stardom, with achievements like their Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping song “Dynamite” and their acclaimed album “ARIRANG.” Fans like Vann and Aira Uy are eagerly anticipating the Toronto concerts, having missed out on previous opportunities due to the pandemic.

Excitement for BTS’s arrival is palpable in the city, with BTS Boulevard and the official BTS merchandise pop-up store attracting fans and visitors. As fans gear up for the concerts, BTS Army Toronto plans to engage the community through various activities during the Toronto Korean Festival and near the concert venue. Vann is particularly looking forward to the unique concert experience at Rogers Stadium, anticipating surprise performances and the intense connection fans feel during BTS concerts.

The anticipation is building for the weekend shows, and Vann is ready to embrace the special moments and connections that BTS concerts bring to the community.
