Seattle Mariners have officially signed first baseman Josh Naylor to a lucrative five-year contract worth $92.5 million. The deal includes a $6.5 million signing bonus that will be paid within 120 days of approval by the commissioner’s office. Naylor’s annual salaries under the contract are set at $10 million for the upcoming season, $16 million in 2027, $18 million in 2028, $20 million in 2029, and $22 million in 2030.
As part of the agreement, Naylor has been granted a full no-trade clause, meaning he must approve any potential trades to other teams. The 28-year-old, hailing from Mississauga, Ont., entered free agency following a successful season where the Mariners reached the American League Championship Series, eventually losing to the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 7.
After expressing interest in retaining Naylor, Mariners’ president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto emphasized the player’s significance to the team. Dipoto praised Naylor’s attributes, including his intelligence, intensity, toughness, and competitive spirit, labeling him as a valuable asset for the Mariners’ long-term success.
Seattle’s commitment to Naylor marks the third-largest contract in team history, following agreements with second baseman Robinson Cano and pitcher Robbie Ray. Manager Dan Wilson commended Naylor’s impact on the team, highlighting his exceptional performance both on and off the field during his brief tenure with the franchise.
During his time with the Mariners, Naylor showcased impressive stats, batting .299 with nine home runs, 33 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases in 54 games. In postseason play, he maintained a .340 batting average with three home runs, five RBIs, and two stolen bases across 12 games.
Throughout the season, Naylor’s overall performance was notable, with a .295 batting average, 20 home runs, 92 RBIs, and a career-high 30 stolen bases.
