Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime suffered a 6-2, 6-4 defeat against Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP Finals tennis tournament semifinals on Saturday. Despite a notable victory over third-ranked Alexander Zverev in the previous match, Auger-Aliassime couldn’t overcome the top-ranked Alcaraz.
Auger-Aliassime delivered five aces with just one double fault but missed his chance to break during the match. On the other hand, Alcaraz, who is set to compete against second-ranked Jannik Sinner in the final, also produced five aces and one double fault, managing to break Auger-Aliassime three times out of eight opportunities.
In the first set, Alcaraz surged ahead to a 4-1 lead after the score was tied at 1-1, eventually securing the set. The second set saw Auger-Aliassime fighting back but Alcaraz held on to a 4-4 tie, allowing only two points in the final two games to claim victory.
Meanwhile, in another match, Sinner triumphed over Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-2, extending his unbeaten streak against the Australian to 13 matches. Sinner, the second-ranked player, is vying to defend his title in the ATP Finals and will face either Alcaraz or Auger-Aliassime in the upcoming final match.
While Alcaraz has already clinched the year-ending top ranking, he is eager to advance to his first final in this tournament. Notably, Sinner and Alcaraz have faced off in the last three Grand Slam finals, with each player securing victories at different events throughout the year.
Sinner has also emerged victorious in the Australian Open, defeating Alexander Zverev in the final, alongside Alcaraz’s two major wins. Sinner’s impressive form continues as he remains undefeated on indoor hard courts, showcasing consistency and resilience in crucial moments throughout the tournament.
