All 24 schoolgirls who were kidnapped by armed individuals from a school in Kebbi, northwestern Nigeria, have been successfully rescued, announced the country’s president on Tuesday. The abduction took place on November 17, with previous reports indicating 25 students were taken. However, President Bola Tinubu confirmed that all 24 abducted students have now been rescued, although specific details about the rescue operation were not disclosed.
Expressing relief at the safe recovery of all 24 girls, Tinubu emphasized the urgent need to strengthen security measures in vulnerable regions to prevent further incidents of kidnapping. The Kebbi attack was part of a series of recent mass abductions in Nigeria, with another incident occurring at a Catholic school in north-central Niger state where over 300 students and staff were abducted. Fortunately, fifty students managed to escape over the following days.
