Canada’s Alphonso Davies made his comeback for Bayern Munich after 262 days following a serious knee injury. The 25-year-old Edmonton native entered the game as a substitute in the 88th minute during Bayern’s 3-1 victory over Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League at Allianz Arena. Josip Stanisic initially played in the left back position for Bayern against Sporting, but Davies hinted on the Film Never Lies podcast a day earlier that coach Vincent Kompany might bring him on.

“I’m uncertain about playing time,” Davies mentioned. “It’s ultimately the coach’s decision.” Davies came on for Serge Gnabry, a German international and one of Bayern’s scorers in the match.

Davies last played in March for Canada against the United States in a CONCACAF Nations League game, where he suffered a knee injury, tearing a ligament and sustaining other damage in his right knee. Bayern criticized the Canadian national team for allegedly not conducting proper medical evaluations on Davies before he flew back to Germany.
