Hockey Canada has revealed the new Olympic hockey uniforms for the men’s, women’s, and Para teams set to participate in the Milan-Cortina Games. Athletes from Canada’s women’s, men’s, and para hockey squads will have two choices of uniform – a white jersey featuring a red maple leaf and a red jersey with a black maple leaf.
The maple leaf crests on the jerseys have a multi-tone design resembling a diamond, symbolizing the athletes’ capacity to endure intense pressure, as stated by Hockey Canada. CEO Katherine Henderson emphasized that the jerseys embody the essence of Canadian hockey and the fervor fans display in supporting the athletes.
Designed by Nike, the jerseys were showcased during the intermission of the Rivalry Series opener between Canada and the U.S. David Shoemaker, the Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General of the Canadian Olympic Committee, highlighted that these jerseys not only serve as uniforms but also represent the pride, passion, and history of Canada’s Olympic hockey legacy.
The Canadian women’s team will commence their gold medal defense on February 5, a day ahead of the opening ceremony, while the men’s team, including NHL players for the first time since the 2014 Sochi Games, will play their first game on February 12. The Para hockey tournament will kick off on March 6, marking a significant moment in hockey history with the return of NHL players and the inaugural Winter Games following the establishment of the PWHL. The anticipation is high as fans eagerly await the start of the women’s, men’s, and para hockey tournaments in Milan.
