Canadian astronaut David Saint-Jacques is anticipating the return of the Artemis II crew to Earth, having experienced a similar journey himself. Saint-Jacques described the intense re-entry process, with the crew reaching speeds of up to 10 kilometers per second as they enter Earth’s atmosphere, transforming into a fiery spectacle before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.

The crew, which includes Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Jeremy Hansen, will face a six-minute communication blackout during re-entry. Saint-Jacques shared his insights on the mission and the emotional experience of watching friends return to Earth.

Reflecting on the significance of the mission, Saint-Jacques expressed pride in Canada’s achievement and highlighted the camaraderie among the astronauts. He described the physical sensations of re-entering the atmosphere, likening it to a rapid deceleration and emphasizing the importance of hitting the right angle to ensure a safe landing.

The astronauts are preparing for their return by securing the spacecraft, testing equipment, and reviewing procedures. Saint-Jacques emphasized the transformative perspective gained from seeing Earth from space and the unity achieved through international collaboration on such missions.

As the crew readies for re-entry, Saint-Jacques underscored the message of hope and unity that space exploration conveys, emphasizing the shared humanity and potential for extraordinary achievements when working together towards common goals.
