Laurence Fournier Beaudry revealed on Saturday that she had acquired French citizenship, paving the way for the 33-year-old Canadian native to compete for France at the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympics alongside her partner, Guillaume Cizeron. The decision came after Olympic ice dance champion Cizeron announced earlier this year that he would be partnering with Fournier Beaudry following the suspension of her former partner, Nikolaj Sorensen, for “sexual maltreatment.”
Taking to Instagram, Fournier Beaudry expressed her joy and gratitude for the support she has received throughout her journey, having previously represented Denmark. The shift in national allegiance is a common practice in ice dance and pairs figure skating due to the challenges in finding suitable partners.
Cizeron, aged 30, and his former partner, Gabriella Papadakis, secured the gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and clinched five world titles before retiring in December 2024. Cizeron returned to competitive skating earlier this year alongside Fournier Beaudry, triumphing at the Grand Prix de France last month.
The duo’s remarkable performance and partnership were highlighted by their recent victory at the Grand Prix de France, showcasing their talent and dedication on the ice.
