In the meantime, Sri Lankan officials have reported a total of 193 fatalities due to floods and landslides in the country. The recent floods in Indonesia have led to 442 casualties, with the death toll expected to increase as more bodies are found, and around 290,700 people have been displaced. The floods have resulted in landslides, road damages, isolation of certain areas, and disruption of communication networks.
National Disaster Management Agency figures reveal that 402 individuals are currently missing across North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh in Indonesia. The rescue operations have been impeded by adverse weather conditions and the scarcity of heavy machinery. Assistance has been slow in reaching severely affected areas like Sibolga and Central Tapanuli district in North Sumatra.
Social media videos depict scenes of people navigating through obstacles to acquire food, medicine, and fuel amidst the chaos. Reports of looting surfaced before aid delivery, prompting the deployment of regional police to restore order. Helicopters from Jakarta were dispatched for logistical support in inaccessible regions, although aid operations have been hindered by unpredictable weather.

Severe weather conditions have plagued Sri Lanka, intensifying with heavy rains and resulting in flooding, landslides, particularly in the central hill country. Authorities have alerted about Cyclone Ditwah, forming in the seas east of Sri Lanka and anticipated to head towards the southern coast of India.
