Global fashion icons gathered with the public on Friday morning to pay their respects to the legendary designer Valentino at his funeral service in Rome, held at the central Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri. The funeral, following a two-day public viewing at the Valentino Foundation’s headquarters in Rome, served as the final tribute to the world-renowned designer.

Prominent figures in the fashion industry, including Tom Ford, Donatella Versace, and Anna Wintour, as well as Hollywood celebrities like Anne Hathaway, attended the funeral service. Fans and admirers also congregated outside the church, some adorned in red attire or accessories as a nod to Valentino’s iconic color.

Valentino Garavani, who passed away at 93 in his Rome residence earlier in the week, was revered by generations of royals, first ladies, and celebrities such as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Queen Rania of Jordan, and Julia Roberts, who praised the designer for enhancing their appearance and confidence.

Hundreds of individuals paid their respects to the “last emperor” of Italian fashion during the public viewing. Valentino, known for his luxurious gowns showcased at prestigious events like the Academy Awards, always kept his atelier in Rome while unveiling his collections primarily in Paris.

During the funeral ceremony, heartfelt speeches were delivered, including one by Giancarlo Giammetti, Valentino’s longtime partner, expressing gratitude for the beauty and inspiration the designer brought into their lives. The event was a poignant farewell to a fashion luminary whose creations left a lasting impact on the industry and beyond.
