Danica Nelson, a resident of Toronto, shares her experience of getting caught up in work to the point of burnout. She immersed herself in projects, neglecting basic needs like eating, sunlight, and even bathroom breaks. Initially dismissing concerns from her partner, she eventually realized her intense work habits were unhealthy.

Growing up with limited financial resources, Danica’s fear of scarcity drove her to avoid debt at all costs. Despite graduating debt-free, she maintained a frugal lifestyle, always prioritizing financial security. After a period of burnout, she took a sabbatical to recharge and reflect on her work-life balance.

Returning to work energized, she landed a higher-paying job but fell back into overworking. Following a layoff, she embraced the opportunity to continue her break, moving to Spain. Inspired by her journey, she founded Liberty Leave to assist women in planning breaks without jeopardizing their financial stability.

Danica now values non-monetary wealth, prioritizing time freedom, community, and mental well-being. While she still budgets meticulously, she no longer sacrifices her inner peace for financial gain. Embracing entrepreneurship, she focuses on fulfilling work and cherishing moments of personal indulgence without overthinking.
