The Canadian hockey-themed drama series “Heated Rivalry” has been awarded the prestigious Peabody Award. Produced by Crave and Bell Media and distributed by HBO Max in the U.S., the show garnered unexpected success upon its release in November 2025. It was recently recognized as one of the 11 outstanding TV programs in the entertainment category by the Peabody Awards committee.

According to the Peabody Awards jurors, “Heated Rivalry” skillfully navigates complex themes of sexuality and emotional intimacy, championing healthy masculinity and leaving a significant cultural impact on television audiences this year. The series, conceptualized by Montreal filmmaker Jacob Tierney and adapted from novels by Halifax writer Rachel Reid, delves into a clandestine romantic relationship between fictional professional hockey players Shane Hollander (portrayed by Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (played by Connor Storrie).

In response to the accolade, Tierney and the show’s official Instagram account expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the intricacy and depth of the story they sought to portray authentically. Author Rachel Reid also shared her pride in the achievement with a joyful emoji. The Directors Guild of Canada in Ontario extended their congratulations to the show’s team on social media, highlighting their members’ contributions to the series.

The recipients of the 86th Annual Peabody Awards are set to be celebrated at a ceremony in Los Angeles on May 31.
