Canadian forward Jonathan David has been awarded the title of CONCACAF men’s player of the year for the 2024-25 season. The 25-year-old, who plays for Juventus, received the honor for his exceptional performances at both the club and international levels. David is the second Canadian man to win this prestigious award, following Alphonso Davies, who has won it twice.

Having previously been nominated for the CONCACAF award in 2021, 2022, and 2023-24, David’s recognition further solidifies his status as a standout player. On the women’s side, Haiti’s Melchie Dumornay, who competes for OL Lyonnes in France, clinched the CONCACAF women’s player of the year award for the second consecutive year.

The voting process for the awards, covering the period from August 2024 to July 2025, involved input from CONCACAF member association players, coaches, media, and fans. With 37 goals in 67 appearances, Jonathan David holds the record for the most goals scored by a Canadian male player.

CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani, also a FIFA vice-president, congratulated both David and Dumornay on their well-deserved accolades, highlighting their outstanding performances during the past season. David’s success extended to his club achievements, where he notably scored seven goals in the Champions League for Lille before becoming the team’s all-time leading scorer in European competitions.

Despite facing challenges in finding the net for Juventus, David’s impact remains significant. His move to the Italian club in July marked a new chapter in his career, following a successful stint in France. Other nominees for the men’s award included Edson Alvarez, Raul Jimenez, Angel Sepulveda, Malik Tillman, and Manfred Ugalde.

Melchie Dumornay joins an elite group of female players by winning the CONCACAF award more than once, alongside American Alex Morgan. Dumornay’s impressive performances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and her contributions to her French club’s league title victory were key factors in her recognition.

Furthermore, Raul Jimenez’s memorable free kick goal against Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League Finals was voted as the goal of the year by fans. This goal, along with Jimenez’s overall performance in the tournament, showcased his exceptional skill and talent. Other notable nominees for the award included Charlyn Corral, Jacqueline Ovalle, Emily Fox, Lindsey Heaps, and Khadija Shaw.

In addition to individual accolades, the recognition of outstanding goals from players like Christine Sinclair and Sebastian Berhalter added an exciting element to the awards ceremony, celebrating the diversity and talent within the CONCACAF region.
