Three individuals who accused actor Kevin Spacey of sexual assault have reached a settlement for their civil claims before the scheduled trial at the High Court in London, according to court records. The accusers claimed that the renowned actor had mistreated them at different times between 2000 and 2013. Spacey has consistently denied these accusations.
The civil trials, set to commence later this year, were halted by judge Christina Lambert last week, citing that the involved parties had agreed to a settlement. Details of the settlement terms were not disclosed, and the judge did not issue any directives regarding costs. The order, dated Friday, was released to the public on Wednesday.
During a trial in London in 2023, Spacey, now 66, faced nine alleged sexual offenses against four men and was acquitted of all charges. Two of the civil claimants, whose identities were protected by legal measures, provided testimony during Spacey’s criminal trial. In a separate incident, Spacey successfully defended himself in a $40 million US civil lawsuit in New York in 2022 brought by actor Anthony Rapp of “Star Trek: Discovery.”
Once a highly acclaimed actor known for his roles in films such as “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “L.A. Confidential” as well as the TV series “House of Cards,” Spacey’s career was marred by allegations of sexual misconduct. He received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the 1995 film “The Usual Suspects” and a Best Actor Oscar for “American Beauty” in 1999. Spacey also served as the artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre from 2004 to 2015.
Despite mentioning finding work in recent years, Spacey’s recent roles have been in smaller films or stage productions rather than the major Hollywood productions he was previously associated with before the misconduct allegations surfaced.
