A severe dust storm swept through Libya on Tuesday, causing poor visibility and leading to the temporary closure of air traffic at two international airports in Benghazi and Tripoli. Libya, situated in the Sahara Desert, is susceptible to dust storms, a phenomenon that typically occurs during the spring months, with peak activity in April. These storms are generated when strong winds from thunderstorms lift dry soil particles, carrying dust and sand over long distances in the atmosphere.

Benghazi, the country’s second-largest city located on the eastern coast, bore the brunt of the storm, cloaked in a thick orange haze. Witness the surreal scenes resembling the landscape of “Dune” captured during the event.

Images taken during the dust storm depict a man photographing a building obscured by orange dust particles, pigeons congregating near a fountain in the orange-tinted atmosphere, individuals taking photos by the seaside under the orange sky, and the corniche in Benghazi covered by the dust storm.
