Waterloo regional police are currently looking into multiple vehicle accidents, some of which have tragically resulted in the death of two pedestrians.
One incident occurred on Friday night when a pickup truck collided with a pedestrian on Christopher Drive near Champlain Boulevard in Cambridge around 11:15 p.m. Unfortunately, the pedestrian, a 60-year-old woman from Cambridge, lost her life at the scene, while the pickup truck driver remained unharmed.
Another collision took place on Saturday afternoon on Wilmot Centre Road near Bleams Road involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 66-year-old man from Wilmot, was taken to a hospital outside the region, where he was pronounced dead. The motorcycle driver, a 34-year-old male, did not sustain any reported injuries.
According to a spokesperson from the Waterloo Regional Police Service, there is no indication that impairment played a role in either of these incidents.
In a separate early morning hit-and-run on Saturday around 12:30 a.m., authorities responded to a car crashing into a hydro pole in the vicinity of Christner Road and Waterloo Street in Wilmot. The driver fled the scene, causing significant damage to the pole and resulting in downed powerlines. The vehicle involved, suspected to be a red Chevrolet Silverado from 2017-2021, likely has substantial front-end damage and is missing the Chevrolet emblem.
The police are actively investigating all three collisions and are appealing to any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage to come forward with information by contacting the authorities or Crime Stoppers.
