“One Battle After Another” Dominates Oscars with Six Wins

The film “One Battle After Another” emerged as the top winner at the recent Academy Awards, clinching the coveted best picture Oscar along with five other accolades. Earlier, Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” had taken the lead with an impressive 16 nominations, securing victory in four categories.

Michael B. Jordan, the star of “Sinners,” achieved his first best actor win to a standing ovation. Additionally, Jessie Buckley’s portrayal of William Shakespeare’s wife in “Hamnet” garnered her the award, following her success in various other prestigious award ceremonies this year.

The Oscars also celebrated Canadian talent, with director Maggie Kang receiving the award for best animated feature for “KPop Demon Hunters.” Furthermore, the Canadian production team behind Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” triumphed, with Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau claiming the Oscars for production design.

In a historic win, “One Battle After Another” secured Paul Thomas Anderson his debut wins for best adapted screenplay and directing, along with triumphs in the editing and casting categories. “Sinners” also shined with four wins, including Ryan Coogler’s victory for best original screenplay and Autumn Durald Arkapaw making history as the first racialized woman to win best cinematography.

The 98th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, witnessed a diverse range of winners, showcasing outstanding talent and creativity across various film categories.
