One of the prominent tourist spots in northeastern Ontario has recently resumed operations following extensive flooding.

Visitors can now access Bridal Veil Falls on Manitoulin Island after a temporary closure.

While the gorge leading to the falls is accessible again, the trail network along the Kagawong River remains shut due to the need for extensive cleanup. The aftermath of the flooding has left behind a significant amount of debris, including hundreds of trees that need to be cleared, a process that may span several years.

Bryan Barker, the mayor of Billings Township encompassing the falls, emphasized the extent of the damage caused by the flooding, including rerouting, erosion, and landslides, stating that mere words cannot capture the scale of destruction visitors witness firsthand.

Bridal Veil Falls serves as a crucial attraction during the summer tourism season on Manitoulin Island, contributing significantly to the local economy. Despite the closure, tourists have been arriving only to find the site inaccessible.

Despite the closure, tourists and tour groups have continued to arrive at the falls, queuing up at the viewing platform in hopes of catching a glimpse of the natural wonder.

Barker acknowledged the influx of visitors, noting that some third-party tourist advertisers have mistakenly promoted Bridal Veil Falls as open in their materials, leading to further confusion.

While acknowledging the dangerous conditions along the trails, Barker, in collaboration with the local environmental organization Manitoulin Streams, has devised a comprehensive plan spanning multiple phases to restore the area post-flooding. However, the restoration efforts are anticipated to extend well beyond three years.

Additionally, Barker expressed optimism about reopening
