The search operation for a missing aircraft traveling from Canada’s East Coast to Greenland has moved into its second day. Naviair, a state-owned Danish air traffic service provider, disclosed to CBC News that they were notified around 4 p.m. local time on Saturday about a single-engine plane that had disappeared.
Confirming the aircraft’s registration under an American company, Naviair stated that the plane was en route from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, N.L., with one individual onboard. Search efforts recommenced on Sunday, primarily conducted by boat due to aerial challenges caused by low-hanging clouds. The search had been halted on Saturday evening due to unfavorable weather conditions and limited visibility.
Search crews are focusing their efforts on the Sermitsiaq mountain region, located 15 kilometers northeast of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. Happy Valley-Goose Bay, positioned in central Labrador, is approximately 850 kilometers northwest of St. John’s, with the Labrador Sea separating Labrador from Greenland.
