At the 32nd Actor Awards by the Screen Actors Guild, the ensemble cast of “Sinners” emerged victorious, interrupting the dominating streak of “One Battle After Another.” This win positions “Sinners” as a strong contender for the upcoming Academy Awards, creating anticipation for a thrilling finale in two weeks.

The Screen Actors Guild’s awards, previously known as the SAG Awards, serve as significant indicators for the Oscars. With actors forming a substantial portion of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, their selections at the Actor Awards often foreshadow the Oscars.

The triumph of Ryan Coogler’s vampire saga, “Sinners,” at the recent ceremony streamed by Netflix in Los Angeles signals a potential success at the Oscars. Despite “One Battle After Another” securing numerous accolades from the Golden Globes, Producers Guild Awards, BAFTAs, and Directors Guild Awards, “Sinners” has now disrupted the Oscar race.

Delroy Lindo, representing the cast of “Sinners,” expressed gratitude during the ceremony, thanking the audience sincerely. Michael B. Jordan’s unexpected win for best male actor over the favored Timothee Chalamet marked a significant milestone in his illustrious career, leaving both Jordan and the audience pleasantly surprised.

Jessie Buckley clinched the best female actor award for her role in “Hamnet,” as expected. However, other categories proved more unpredictable. Sean Penn secured the best supporting male actor award for “One Battle After Another,” while Amy Madigan, visibly astonished, won best supporting female actor for “Weapons.”

Amy Madigan’s win, at 75 years old and never previously nominated by the guild, brought a moment of surprise and humor during her acceptance speech. The posthumous recognition of Catherine O’Hara as best female actor in a comedy series for her role in “The Studio” garnered a heartfelt standing ovation, with Seth Rogen accepting the award on her behalf.

The ceremony, presented by SAG-AFTRA and streamed live on Netflix, featured a diverse array of winners across various categories. Notable highlights included Keri Russell, Seth Rogen, Michelle Williams, Owen Cooper, and Noah Wyle among the individual award recipients.

Veteran actor Harrison Ford received the esteemed SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, humorously presented by Woody Harrelson. Ford, visibly moved during his acceptance speech, reflected on his enduring career and expressed gratitude for the recognition, considering it a source of encouragement.

The Actor Awards ceremony also recognized the best stunt ensemble in “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” and TV series winners like “The Studio” for comedy and “The Pitt” for drama. This event marked a significant gathering in Hollywood following the notable Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger, signaling ongoing industry transformations.

In conclusion, the 32nd Actor Awards ceremony celebrated outstanding achievements in acting, paying tribute to industry legends and spotlighting exceptional talent across film and television categories.
