Jason Beck experienced a sense of sadness when he checked False Creek seawall in Vancouver for the missing helmet of racing legend Greg Moore. The helmet, stolen from the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame on September 3, was reported to be seen near the Cambie Street Bridge. Despite efforts from the public and paddling clubs in the area, Beck did not find the helmet during his search.

Fortunately, the Vancouver police solved the case by recovering the unique blue and gold helmet from a residence on Dunlevy Avenue. A 39-year-old man was arrested for theft and possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000. Beck expressed his emotions upon receiving the helmet back, stating that they had not expected its return.

Sgt. Stan Dy of the Vancouver Police Department emphasized the importance his team placed on finding the missing helmet, which was a significant piece of British Columbia sports history. Beck mentioned that the incident generated a strong reaction from the community, reflecting the value placed on Moore’s legacy.

Greg Moore, a promising race car driver from Maple Ridge, tragically passed away during a race in California at the age of 24. Described as the potential Wayne Gretzky of racing, Moore’s family expressed relief and gratitude for the return of the helmet to the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame. The helmet, symbolizing Greg’s spirit and significance to Canadians, was taken from a display beside Moore’s race car.

The suspect, with a history of property crimes and 95 prior theft convictions as an adult, was released on an undertaking to appear in court on November 19. Security measures at the hall have been enhanced following the incident to prevent future thefts.
