Three suicide bombers attacked the headquarters of a Pakistani paramilitary force on Monday, resulting in the deaths of three personnel and injuring at least five individuals, according to authorities. The assailants initiated gunfire while breaching the Federal Constabulary headquarters in Peshawar city before detonating explosives inside the compound, as reported by the police.
Javed Iqbal, the deputy commandant of the force, confirmed the loss of three paramilitary personnel. A senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity to Reuters due to lack of media authorization, disclosed that the initial assailant targeted the main entrance, allowing others to enter the premises. The area has been sealed off by law enforcement, including the army and police, who are cautiously managing the situation amid suspicions of additional terrorists within the headquarters.
The incident occurred in a heavily populated region of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, leading to road closures and heightened security measures by the army, police, and security personnel, as observed by a local resident, Safdar Khan. Five wounded individuals, including two paramilitary personnel, were transported to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment, according to the hospital spokesperson Mohammad Asim.
As of now, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Following the deadly border conflicts between Pakistan and Afghanistan last month, Islamist militants in the area have escalated their assaults. Pakistan has accused the Afghan Taliban of providing shelter to these militants, alleged to engage in cross-border attacks, a claim refuted by Kabul.
