When Savannah Rose Kulla-Davies left to meet her former partner earlier this week, her father was unaware that it would be their final encounter. Expressing deep sorrow, he shared with CBC Toronto that he misses her greatly and anticipates a long grieving process.
Tragically, Kulla-Davies, aged 29, was fatally shot at a Brampton, Ontario plaza by her ex-partner, Anthony Deschepper, 38, who then abducted their 17-month-old daughter, leading to an Amber Alert. Deschepper was later shot by police at a gas station in Niagara Falls.
The day started like any other for Kulla-Davies until she visited a Starbucks and headed to the plaza to meet her ex-partner, according to her brother, Spencer Porter. Today, the plaza serves as a makeshift memorial with flowers accumulating in her honor.
Despite their separation, Kulla-Davies aimed to facilitate her ex-partner’s visitation with their daughter, highlighting her compassionate nature, as stated by her father. He praised her willingness to maintain a connection between the father and child.
Described as passionate about dance, Kulla-Davies transitioned from working as a social worker in Peel Region to embracing motherhood, raising four children. Her family remembered her fondly as someone who cherished being a mother but tragically lost the opportunity to continue in that role.
Following her untimely death, her family plans to petition the court for guardianship of her youngest child, who was the subject of the Amber Alert. They intend to ensure her daughter grows up knowing the kind-hearted person her mother was.
Reflecting on Kulla-Davies, her brother emphasized her unwavering supportiveness despite the challenges of raising four children. He recalled her kindness and willingness to assist whenever needed, underscoring the profound impact of her absence.
The fatal shooting that claimed Kulla-Davies’ life was not the first time Deschepper had allegedly brandished a firearm in her presence. Previous charges against Deschepper, with Kulla-Davies as the complainant, included discharging a firearm recklessly, resulting in delays in legal proceedings.
Charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder, another woman with Deschepper during the incident has been arrested. Deschepper’s demise prompted calls for enhanced bail reforms, with officials advocating for stricter regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
As investigations continue into Deschepper’s death, Kulla-Davies’ family mourns the loss of a beloved daughter, sister, and mother, with Porter expressing that she did not deserve the tragic fate that befell her.
