President Donald Trump declared emergency declarations for multiple states, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency positioned resources and search and rescue teams across affected states.
In response to the storm, officials urged residents to stay home if possible to ensure safety. As the storm caused power outages in Louisiana and Texas, with around 140,000 affected, efforts to restore power and clear roadways were underway, especially in areas heavily impacted by ice.
The storm’s consequences were likened to those of a hurricane, with reports of downed trees and power lines in various regions. Flight operations were severely affected, with over 13,000 flights canceled nationwide, marking a significant disruption in air travel. Major airports such as Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport experienced a high volume of flight cancellations.
Georgia officials issued warnings about an impending ice storm, advising residents to avoid travel and prepare for extended periods indoors. The state expected the most significant ice storm in over a decade, emphasizing the dangers of ice accumulation on roads and power infrastructure. Precautionary measures, including treating highways with brine, were implemented to mitigate the storm’s impact.
As the storm moved towards the Northeast, authorities urged caution and advised against unnecessary travel to ensure public safety. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani emphasized staying indoors and taking necessary precautions to avoid endangerment due to the severe weather conditions.
