The earthquake, according to Earthquakes Canada, occurred at 11:41 p.m. PT on Sunday, approximately 219 kilometers southwest of Port Hardy at the northern tip of Vancouver Island. The tremor originated around 10 kilometers below the ocean floor surface, with authorities confirming no tsunami threat.
The quake’s epicenter lies in proximity to several significant communities on Vancouver Island, including Campbell River at a distance of about 300 kilometers and Port Alberni around 330 kilometers away. Reports indicate that the earthquake’s effects were felt as distant as Metro Vancouver, over 450 kilometers to the southeast, with reports of shaking also coming in from northern Vancouver Island.
