The Junos event held in Hamilton generated a significant economic impact of $17.2 million for the local community, as reported by the organization overseeing the awards. The 55th Juno Awards took place in March, featuring various official events in addition to the main televised ceremony at TD Coliseum.

Tourism Hamilton had anticipated a $12 million boost in spending at local establishments such as hotels, music venues, bars, and restaurants due to the influx of visitors expected for the Junos. Lisa Abbott, the city’s tourism and culture director, expressed delight at the actual outcome, attributing it to Hamilton’s vibrant music scene.

The economic assessment, conducted by a consultant hired by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), revealed that this year’s Junos in Hamilton had the most substantial recorded economic impact among all previous host cities. CARAS also highlighted that the event contributed to an estimated total economic activity of $23.1 million across the province of Ontario.

According to Abbott, the economic benefits extended beyond direct event spending, creating a ripple effect in the local economy through increased patronage at businesses like restaurants, gas stations, and retail stores. The Junos attracted over 16,250 attendees and more than 3,000 music industry professionals, artists, and media representatives.

Emphasizing the collaboration that took place across different areas of Hamilton, Abbott mentioned working with Business Improvement Areas and Six Nations’ tourism team to organize diverse programming for the Junos. The city’s current branding campaign focuses on promoting Hamilton as a music-centric destination, reflecting its identity as a “city of music.”

Looking ahead, Abbott highlighted plans for upcoming major sporting events while underscoring Hamilton’s commitment to maintaining its musical identity. She emphasized that being recognized as the “city of music” is deeply ingrained in Hamilton’s essence and is a title they intend to uphold.
