Stellantis and Microsoft have announced a strategic partnership lasting five years to collaborate on artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and engineering capabilities. This initiative comes as Stellantis endeavors to keep up with technology-driven competitors in the automotive industry. Software and data-driven services are increasingly important in the long-term strategies of automotive companies, particularly as Chinese automakers accelerate the development of features to attract customers globally.

Traditional automakers, often facing challenges in software and tech development, are turning to partnerships with technology firms to enhance their capabilities and speed in this area. Stellantis’ Chief Engineering and Technology Officer, Ned Curic, highlighted the acceleration of AI initiatives across the enterprise through the collaboration with Microsoft.

The agreement between Stellantis and Microsoft focuses on co-developing over 100 AI initiatives, including product development, predictive maintenance, and the rapid deployment of digital features and services. A key aspect of the partnership involves bolstering Stellantis’ global cyber defense center with AI-driven analytics to safeguard vehicles, customer data, and operations worldwide.

This collaboration builds upon the existing relationship between the two companies, which have previously collaborated on connected vehicle platforms and in-car digital services. Stellantis will also leverage Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to modernize its IT infrastructure, aiming for a 60% reduction in its data center footprint by 2029. Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.
