Céline Dion released a new single on Friday, signaling her return to the music scene. The song, titled “Dansons” which translates to “Let’s dance” in English, is a soft and romantic French-language ballad. Accompanying the release is a music video set in Paris, showcasing different couples dancing in a carefree and romantic manner.
This new single precedes Dion’s upcoming 16-show performance at the Paris La Défense Arena from September 12 to October 17. Speculation about her comeback was confirmed with the appearance of mysterious signs in Paris featuring lyrics from her popular songs such as “My Heart Will Go On” and “The Power of Love.”
Written by renowned songwriter Jean-Jacques Goldman, “Dansons” is Dion’s first French release in over a decade and her first original song in years. Her previous release was in 2023 for the film soundtrack of “Love Again.” Dion and Goldman have a history of collaboration, having previously worked together on projects like “Encore un soir” in 2016 and the 1995 album “D’eux,” which remains the best-selling French-language album of all time.
In 2023, Dion had to halt her Courage world tour due to health issues related to stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder. This condition affected her singing ability, leading to the tour’s cancellation after being postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dion made a public singing comeback in July 2024 with a performance of Edith Piaf’s “Hymn to Love” at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris and later at a fashion show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, honoring designer Elie Saab’s 45-year career.
