The Department of Justice reinstated a photo featuring U.S. President Donald Trump from the Jeffrey Epstein files on Sunday. The image, showing Trump with women on a desk, had been flagged for review by the Southern District of New York to safeguard potential victims. Following the examination, officials concluded that no Epstein victims were depicted in the photo, leading to its reposting without any changes.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche clarified that concerns about the women in the image prompted its temporary removal, emphasizing that the action was unrelated to President Trump. The release of numerous documents related to Epstein on Friday has sparked criticism for redactions and the limited mention of Trump, despite his well-documented association with Epstein.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called for a comprehensive investigation into the document production, citing discrepancies from legal requirements. The Justice Department, responding to requests from alleged victims and their legal representatives, took down up to 16 photos, including the Trump desk drawer image, as a precautionary measure.
While Trump has denied any involvement in Epstein’s illicit activities and has not faced accusations of misconduct, questions persist over the handling of the released documents. The Justice Department’s cautious approach in response to victim requests underscored the sensitivity of the situation.
