Grammy award-winning singer Billie Eilish openly challenged billionaires on Wednesday during an event, urging them to redistribute their wealth. Eilish, 23, made the statement while receiving the music innovator award at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards in New York. Comedian Stephen Colbert, who introduced her, revealed that Eilish would be donating $11.5 million from her recent tour proceeds to support food equity, climate justice, carbon pollution reduction, and fighting the climate crisis.

Taking the stage, Eilish emphasized the importance of using wealth for positive impact, especially during challenging times. She pointed out the growing wealth gap globally, with the richest one percent holding a substantial portion of the world’s wealth. Notably present at the event was tech mogul Mark Zuckerberg, known for his immense fortune, who reportedly did not applaud Eilish’s remarks.

Among the audience were prominent figures like Zuckerberg’s wife Priscilla Chan, Spike Lee, Hailey Bieber, Questlove, Adam Scott, and Brittany Snow. Eilish’s outspokenness on social and political issues is not new, as she has previously voiced support for causes like Gaza, Black Lives Matter, veganism, and climate change awareness. Eilish’s activism is part of a trend among Gen Z artists using their platforms to challenge authority and advocate for change.
