Today marks a significant moment for enthusiasts of extravagant talent showcases and quirky musical acts as Canada is gearing up for the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest.
The declaration came shortly after CBC/Radio-Canada and the European Broadcasting Union confirmed CBC’s full membership status within the EBU.
CBC/Radio-Canada’s President and CEO, Marie-Philippe Bouchard, expressed excitement on Canada Day, highlighting the celebration of Canadian culture diversity while announcing the participation in the world’s largest live music event.
Bulgaria will be hosting the 71st edition of the contest next year, renowned as a platform for songwriters, singers, and musicians to showcase their talents.
The Eurovision Song Contest is famed for its elaborate performances, flamboyant costumes, and eccentric displays that captivate audiences worldwide. Canadian fans have shown substantial interest in the event, with Canada ranking in the Top 3 in the “Rest of the World” vote last year.
In a statement, Martin Green, director of the Eurovision Song Contest, warmly welcomed CBC/Radio-Canada to the Eurovision family, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the competition.
Notably, in 1988, Céline Dion clinched victory at the Eurovision Song Contest, catalyzing her successful career. Other Canadian participants include Natasha St-Pier and Montreal’s La Zarra.
While the Eurovision Song Contest has seen its share of controversies, including recent boycotts, Canada’s entry marks a significant addition since Australia joined in 2015.
