A mysterious carving of the Toronto Blue Jays logo on the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia façade in Halifax was revealed to be a recent addition, not a long-standing element as previously thought. The artist responsible, Craig Potter, disclosed that the carving was done in 2015 during a restoration project, at the request of his baseball enthusiast supervisor. The logo, featuring the Blue Jays bird with a maple leaf, was created in response to a Boston Red Sox cap emblem already present on the building’s north side since the ’90s.

The discovery of the true origins of the Blue Jays emblem surprised Colin Stinson, the gallery’s marketing director, who had been unaware of its backstory until Potter’s confession. With the ongoing success of the Toronto Blue Jays in the playoffs, more visitors have been drawn to the gallery to admire the unique carving, situated on the south façade.

Potter expressed delight in the increased interest in the logo, describing it as a hidden gem for locals and tourists alike. As the Blue Jays faced the Los Angeles Dodgers in a pivotal game, Stinson hoped that the carving would serve as a symbol of good luck for the team and unite the community in support of their championship aspirations.
