U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed to participate in Trump’s Board of Peace initiative, which aims to address global conflicts. Putin quickly responded, stating that the invitation was still being considered.
During a press briefing at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Trump confirmed, “He was invited. He’s accepted.” This statement came after Trump’s meeting with NATO chief Mark Rutte.
Following Trump’s announcement, Putin informed the Russian security council that the foreign ministry was reviewing the proposal and would provide a response in due time.
Trump justified the invitation to Russia by emphasizing his desire for all nations, particularly those led by influential figures, to be involved in the initiative. He stated, “I have some controversial people. But these are people that get the job done. These are people that have tremendous influence.”
