The Winnipeg Blue Bombers faced a challenging task of clearing out their lockers following their defeat on Sunday. The team will soon make way for another squad as Winnipeg hosts the Grey Cup game on November 16.

Quarterback Zach Collaros expressed unease about the situation, emphasizing the difficulty of having another team take over their locker room. The Blue Bombers fell short in the CFL East Division semifinal against the Montreal Alouettes, losing 42-33 in a dramatic game.

Despite a strong comeback effort from Winnipeg, led by a series of touchdowns and a temporary lead, the Alouettes, guided by quarterback Davis Alexander, secured the victory. Montreal advances to face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East final, while the Saskatchewan Roughriders will host the B.C. Lions in the West final.

The Blue Bombers finished fourth in the West with a 10-8 record and had to cross over to play the Alouettes, becoming the 13th crossover team to miss out on the Grey Cup. Collaros, reflecting on the season, acknowledged the high expectations set for the team and himself.

Veteran receiver Nic Demski described the season as challenging, particularly due to injuries. Demski, who sustained a hamstring injury and missed key games, expressed frustration at not finding a solution to the lingering issue. The team also faces uncertainty with several pending free agents, including key players like Brady Oliveira and Dalton Schoen.

Backup quarterback Chris Streveler shared his heartbreaking experience of re-injuring his knee, sidelining him for the season. Streveler, determined to recover, highlighted the disappointment of not being able to participate in the East final.

Throughout the season, Winnipeg’s defense and special teams showcased strong performances, with emerging star Trey Vaval leading in various categories. Vaval, a standout rookie, is a top contender for the league’s outstanding rookie and special-teams player awards.

Defensive end Willie Jefferson, who tied his career-high in pass knockdowns, expressed his desire to continue playing for the Blue Bombers, emphasizing his attachment to the team and the potential for future success.
