A man known as the “Crypto King,” Aiden Pleterski, found himself in a harrowing situation when he was kidnapped and subjected to torture in December 2022. The kidnapping ordeal, orchestrated by Deren Akyeam-Pong, involved threats, physical abuse, and a demand for undisclosed assets.
Pleterski, initially lured under the guise of a business meeting, was held captive for three days. During this time, he endured waterboarding, burns, and beatings with golf clubs at various locations in southern Ontario. The disturbing details of the incident emerged during Akyeam-Pong’s recent court proceedings, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the kidnapping.
The kidnapping was allegedly orchestrated by Akil Heywood, who sought to recover a substantial investment he had made with Pleterski. Heywood, along with Alfredo Paladino and Rakeem Henry, faces charges in connection with the abduction, although their trials have been postponed following Akyeam-Pong’s guilty plea.
The kidnappers resorted to extreme measures to extract information and money from Pleterski, including filming distressing videos and engaging in violent acts. Despite the traumatic experience, Pleterski managed to negotiate his release and seek help, leading to the apprehension of the perpetrators.
The incident sheds light on the risks associated with high-stakes financial dealings and the lengths some individuals may go to in pursuit of financial gain. As the legal proceedings continue, the victims and the accused await justice in a case that has shaken the cryptocurrency community.
