In the past decade, fans couldn’t get enough of Matthew Perry’s portrayal of Chandler Bing on the popular sitcom “Friends.” However, following his passing in 2023, many found it challenging to reconcile the news of his ketamine addiction with the beloved character they knew so well.
To shed more light on the life of the Canadian-born actor, Netflix has announced a forthcoming three-part documentary series titled “The One About Matthew Perry.” The series will delve into Perry’s journey from a rising comedic talent to his iconic role on the hit NBC show, featuring never-before-heard accounts from his inner circle, including close friends and his sister, Mia Perry Bowick.
Bowick, a grief specialist, has openly shared her personal process of mourning after Perry’s death. She expressed in a statement that it took time for her to be ready to share memories of loving Matthew in all his complexities, beyond his on-screen persona as Chandler and his battle with addiction.
Tragically, Perry was discovered deceased from a ketamine overdose in his backyard hot tub at the age of 54. Several individuals pleaded guilty to charges related to providing him with the drug, with Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who supplied Perry with ketamine, currently appealing his 30-month prison sentence.
Netflix has assured that the documentary series will not only feature fond recollections from Perry’s admirers but will also reveal new insights into his personal struggles, paying tribute to his legacy of honesty and advocacy. The docuseries is scheduled to premiere on October 27.
