The annual Perseid meteor shower occurs when Earth moves through the debris trail left by Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. This year’s event reached its peak overnight, coinciding with a new moon that offered optimal conditions for sky watchers as the absence of moonlight allowed for clear views of the shooting stars. Witnessed near Mitzpe Ramon, Israel, stunning streaks of Perseid meteors illuminated the sky at Mount Ramon in the Negev Desert. In Croatia, people gathered at the Visnjan Observatory to watch a meteor streaking across the night sky. Similarly, in North Macedonia, a meteor painted the sky above the Stone Dolls of Kuklica near Kratovo. Over in Serbia, spectators gathered at Mount Avala’s Monument to the Unknown Hero to witness the celestial spectacle. In southern Bosnia-Herzegovina, a meteor streaked across the night sky above the ancient Illyrian city of Daorson’s stone walls. In Germany, a meteor with a distinct green tail and the trails of two satellites were visible from Jacobsdorf during the Perseid meteor shower. Lastly, in Malta, a Perseid meteor shot across the night sky behind St. Mark’s Tower near the village of Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, offering a picturesque sight for onlookers.
