Drake has made history with his three latest albums, namely, “Iceman,” “Habibti,” and “Maid of Honour,” securing the top three positions on the prestigious Billboard 200 albums chart. This achievement is unprecedented, marking the first time a single artist has claimed the top three spots simultaneously on the chart.
“Iceman,” the highly anticipated album that Drake promoted with an ice structure in downtown Toronto and a series of livestreamed episodes, debuted at No. 1 on the chart. Following closely behind, “Habibti” secured the No. 2 position, while “Maid of Honour” claimed the No. 3 spot.
With “Iceman” reaching the No. 1 spot, it becomes Drake’s 15th album to achieve this milestone on the chart, equalling Taylor Swift’s record for the most No. 1 albums by a solo artist. All three albums were released on May 15, with “Habibti” and “Maid of Honour” arriving as surprise releases.
Each of the three albums showcases a distinct musical style. “Iceman” primarily focuses on rap and delves into the aftermath of Drake’s feud with Kendrick Lamar and Universal Music Group. In tracks like the album opener “Make Them Cry,” Drake directly addresses the feud and his stance on battling against labels and stations.
On the other hand, “Habibti” takes a softer approach, emphasizing themes of love and relationships in songs like “Slap the City” and “Classic.” Meanwhile, “Maid of Honour” stands out as the most experimental record of the trio, blending elements of Chicago juke and 80s synths with Drake’s signature flow. The album incorporates catchy samples, such as Peggy Gou’s “(It Goes Like) Nanana” in “Cheetah Print” and DJ Casper’s “Cha Cha Slide.”
Drake’s remarkable feat of dominating the top three spots on the Billboard 200 chart with his latest albums signifies his enduring influence and musical prowess in the industry.
