A tragic air disaster involving a UPS cargo plane in Kentucky has claimed the lives of at least 14 individuals, including a child. According to federal investigators, the UPS cargo plane experienced a fire in its left wing and lost an engine shortly before crashing and exploding post takeoff at UPS Worldport, the company’s global aviation hub in Louisville. The intense blaze engulfed the aircraft, spreading to nearby businesses in the area.
The National Transportation Safety Board reported that the plane managed to clear the runway’s end fence before crashing near Muhammad Ali International Airport. Security footage from the airport captured the left engine detaching from the wing during takeoff.
Recovery efforts have located the cockpit voice recorder, data recorder, and the engine on the airfield, with debris scattered over a half-mile radius.
