The new bridge is projected to divert 44.5% of commercial traffic from the existing congested routes, such as the Blue Water Bridge, Ambassador Bridge, and Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. This redirection is expected to save approximately 850,000 hours annually in wait times for truck drivers, translating to substantial cost savings.
The direct connection between the Gordie Howe route and major American and Canadian highways, including Interstate 75 and the 400-series highways in Ontario, underscores the bridge’s strategic importance. The improved efficiency and lower tolls on the Gordie Howe bridge are anticipated to result in monthly savings ranging from $20,000 to $100,000 for trucking companies.
With approximately a third of all U.S.-Canada trade passing through the Windsor-Detroit corridor daily, the Gordie Howe bridge is poised to have a transformative impact on the economy.
